This Website is owned and operated by the University of Sydney (ABN 15 211 513 464) (we, us or our) through its Power Institute (funded by the Power Institute Foundation). Power Publications, an imprint of the Power Institute at the University of Sydney, publishes titles on contemporary art and theory, cultural studies, media studies, and film and animation.
This privacy notice describes the types of personal information we collect from you through this website, how we use and share your information, how to access or amend your information, and how to enquire or complain about our handling of your information.
We will manage your personal information as required by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection 1998 (NSW). In some situations, we may also need to comply with the Privacy Act 1998 (Cth) and international privacy laws where applicable.
Providing your personal information to us is voluntary, however if you choose not to provide your information when requested we may be unable to offer all of our services to you.

WHAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION?
Personal information is any information that identifies you.

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND USE AND SHARE
We will collect personal information from you when you visit our website, when you make a purchase on our website, sign up to our newsletter, register for an event or apply for one of our opportunities (such as the Paris Residency program). We may use third party service providers to collect this information from you on our behalf.
The following information explains the personal information we collect, how we use that information, and who we share it with.

DEVICE INFORMATION
When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. We also collect information about the individual web pages or items that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with this site. We collect device information using the following technologies:

  • “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimise our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

PURCHASES
We currently use Shopify to host our online store.
When you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through our website, Shopify will collect certain information from you on our behalf which we will use to fulfil your order (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). We will share your personal information with Shopify for this same purpose.
The information we collect when you make a purchase includes your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information (including credit card numbers), email address, and phone number.
We may also use information we collect through your purchases to communicate with you, screen our orders for potential risk or fraud, and provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services in line with the preferences you have shared with us.

EVENTS
We currently use Eventbrite to manage registrations for our events.
When you register for an event through our website, Eventbrite will collect certain information from you on our behalf, which we will use to register and facilitate your attendance. We will share your personal information with Eventbrite for this same purpose.
The types of personal information we collect for each event may vary, however may include your name and your email address. We may sometimes share your information with people and organisations that we have partnered with to deliver our events, such as co-presenters, speakers, funders and venues.

OPPORTUNITIES
We currently use Submittable to manage applications for opportunities such as the Cité Internationale des Arts Residency Fellowships Program.
When you apply for one of our opportunities, we will collect and use your personal information to evaluate your application and, if successful, make arrangements with you for delivery of the opportunity.
The types of personal information we may collect include name, email address, phone number, postal address, gender, date of birth, employment details and qualifications.
We may share this information with funders, organisations associated with the opportunities (such as the Cité Internationale des Arts) and individuals invited to evaluate applications.  

WEBSITE SERVICE PROVIDERS
We engage an external service provider to host and support our website, and as such these service providers will have access to personal information collected through our website. Our external service providers are bound by the University’s privacy and security requirements.  

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION
We will not share your personal information with anyone other than our service providers for the purposes stated above without your consent, unless we are required or authorised to do so by law.

LINKS TO EXTERNAL WEBSITES
Our websites include links to several external websites operated by third parties. This privacy statement does not apply to external websites, and we recommend that you ready the privacy information on those websites to understand how the owner or operator will handle your personal information.
We are not responsible for monitoring and reviewing content of external websites, nor do we endorse, approve or recommend the content, owners or operators of websites and applications available through this website.

HOW CAN YOU ACCESS AND CORRECT YOUR INFORMATION
Under NSW privacy laws, you have the right to request access to and correct any personal information concerning you held by the University.
If you live or are located outside Australia, you may have additional rights including:

  • to restrict or object to our handling of your personal information
  • to withdraw your consent to our handling of your personal information at any time
  • to the erasure of your personal information, if we no longer have lawful basis to handle it
  • to object to direct marketing (including any profiling) at any time

HOW TO MAKE A COMPLAINT ABOUT OUR HANDLING OF YOUR INFORMATION
You have the right to complain if you think the University has breached your privacy in the way it has handled your personal information.
