As the Associate Director of Curatorial Programs at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and co-author of Julie Mehretu (2019) – a retrospective monograph and a New York Times Best Art Book of the year – Edwards examines Mehretu’s practice from early ink drawings to her most recent TRANSpaintings. These works are currently on display as part of the MCA's major summer exhibition, Julie Mehretu: A Transcore of the Radical Imaginatory.
Co-presented by The Power Institute and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, as part of the Visual Research Program.
Dr Adrienne Edwards is the Engell Speyer Family Senior Curator and Associate Director of Curatorial Programs at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she has been a curator since 2018.
From 2021–2024 she also served as the Whitney’s Director of Curatorial Affairs, co-curated Whitney Biennial 2022: Quiet as It’s Kept and enhanced the strength and vitality of the Museum's performance program. She holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from New York University.
